Songs are really important to learn or to improve our English language!

Learning through songs

Like in any other language, songs are part of the cultural aspect of each country. In teaching and learning processes, songs contain multiple linguistic elements that may help students to learn the target language. Most of the students increase their motivation when they realize that they learn words or expressions through this type of materials. That's why teachers should explore songs trying to get the best of them.

Good luck! (Buena suerte!)

LITTLE LULU song
I use the following melody for:
developing pitch and intonation
linking of words
repeating words and expressions
learning vocabulary

(Si no te puedo tener)

With this song:

IF I CAN'T HAVE YOU (Lyrics)

Don't know why I'm surviving every lonely day

When there's got to be, no chance for me

My life would end, and it doesn't matter how I cry

My tears of love are a waste of time

If I turn away, am I strong enough to see it through?

Go crazy is what I will do

If I can't have you, I don't want nobody baby

If I can't have you, ah, ah, ah, oh

If I can’t have you, I don’t want nobody baby

If I can't have you, ah, ah, ah

Can't let go and it doesn't matter how I try. I gave it all so easily to you my love

To dreams that never will come true

Am I strong enough to see it through?

Go crazy is what I will do If I can't have you, I don't want nobody baby

If I can't have you ah, ah, ah, oh

If I can’t have you, I don´t want nobody baby

If I can't have you, ah, ah, ah

Translation of expressions (Traducción de expresiones)

1. Don't know why. I don’t know why significa “No se porque”)

2. I'm surviving (“Estoy sobreviviendo”)

4. My life would end (“mi vida terminaría”)

5. and it doesn't matter how I cry (“Y no importa cuanto llore” presente simple en uso hacia futuro)

6. My tears of love are (mis lágrimas de amor son)

7. a waste of time. (En traducción figurativa significa “en vano”. Traducción literal “Una perdida de tiempo”)

8. If I turn away, am I strong enough to see it through?

9. Go crazy (Enloquecer)

10. If I can't have you, I don't want nobody (si no puedo tenerte, no quiero a nadie)

11. It doesn't matter how I try (no importa como lo intente)

12. I gave it all so easily to you (lo di todo muy facilmente para ti)

13. To dreams that never will come true (para los sueños que nunca se realizarán)

ROSE GARDEN BY LYNN ANDERSON

I beg your pardon
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.

When you take, you gotta give, so live and let live,
Or let go, I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could promise you things like big diamond rings,
But you don't find roses growin' on stalks of clover.
So you better think it over.

Well, if sweet-talkin' you could make it come true,
I would give you the world right now on a silver platter,
But what would it matter?

So smile for a while and let's be jolly
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

I could sing you a tune and promise you the moon,
But if that's what it takes to hold you,
I'd just as soon let you go, but there's one thing I want you to know.

You better look before you leap, still waters run deep,
And there won't always be someone there to pull you out,
And you know what I'm talkin' about.

So smile for a while and let's be jolly:
Love shouldn't be so melancholy.
Come along and share the good times while we can.
ITSY, BITSY, TEENIE, WEENIE, YELLOW POLKA-DOT BIKINI

She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was as nervous as she could be
She was afraid to come out of the locker
She was afraid that somebody would see
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore
It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
That she wore for the first time today
An itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
So in the locker she wanted to stay
Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more
She was afraid to come out in the open
And so a blanket around she wore
She was afraid to come out in the open
And so she sat bundled up on the shore
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore
It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
That she wore for the first time today
An itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
So in the blanket she wanted to stay
Two, three, four, stick around we'll tell you more
Now she's afraid to come out of the water
And I wonder what she's gonna do
Now she's afraid to come out of the water
And the poor little girl's turning blue
Two, three, four, tell the people what she wore
It was an itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
That she wore for the first time today
An itsy, bitsy, teenie, weenie, yellow polka-dot bikini
So in the water she wanted to stay
(From the locker to the blanket)
(From the blanket to the shore)
(From the shore to the water)
Yes, there isn't any more

Time after time

Time after time. (Una y otra vez)

Lying in my bed I hear the clock tick and think of you
Caught up in circles
Confusion is nothing new
Flashback, warm nights
Almost left behind
Suitcase of memories
Time after

Sometimes you picture me
I'm walking too far ahead
You're calling to me, I can't hear
What you've said
Then you say, "go slow"
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

Chorus:
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I will be waiting (I'll be waiting)
Time after time

After my picture fades and darkness has
Turned to gray
Watching through windows
you're wondering if I'm OK
Secrets stolen from deep inside
The drum beats out of time

If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time

You say "go slow"
I fall behind
The second hand unwinds

Chorus:
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I'll be waiting
Time after time
If you're lost you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall I will catch you I will be waiting (I'll be waiting)
Time after time (Time after time)

Time after time
Time after time
